The MOT process
As an approved vehicle testing station we carry out the test to DVSA guidelines which includes a comprehensive inspection of all aspects the vehicle to ensure it is in a roadworthy condition.
If your vehicle does not pass the checks below it will fail its MOT and must be repaired before an MOT pass certificate can be issued. You must have a valid MOT certificateas it  is a legal requirement and you will be unable to renew your road tax until a current MOT pass certificate is issued.
Vehicle Identification Number
We check that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), is present and clearly displayed on the vehicle. The VIN is the unique code including a serial number that is stamped on the vehicle. The location of the VIN depends upon the vehicle manufacturer.
Registration Plate
We check the condition, security, legibility and the format of letters and numbers on your registration plate.
The spacing and lettering on the number plate must meet current regulations and should not be altered in any way.
The vehicle can be identified to the area it is from and the year of manufacture.
Lights
Checks are then made on the condition, operation, security and colour of your vehicles lights. We will also check to see if the headlamp alignment is correct.
Steering And Suspension
We will check the steering and suspension components for correct condition and that they are operating properly.
Wipers And Washer Bottle
We check your vehicle's wipers and washers ensuring they provide the driver with a clear view of the road. 
Windscreen
We will check your vehicle's windscreen for any damage. On the drivers side the maximum damage size is 10mm or up to 40mm in the remaining area swept by the wipers.
Horn
We check the horn’s operation for effectiveness and suitability.

Seatbelts
All seatbelts including those in the rear of the vehicle are checked for type, condition, correct operation and security.

 

Seats
The front seats are checked for safety and security.
  Fuel System
The fuel system is checked for leaks and check that the fuel cap fits securely.
Emissions
We check the exhaust emissions, which must be within the specified guidelines and that the exhaust is complete, without serious defects and silences effectively.
Bodywork
We check all round the vehicle structure and body shell to check for excessive corrosion or damage in specific areas of the vehicle. Note : any sharp edge can result in an MOT failure.
Doors
We will check that all doors open and close correctly and that the latch is secure in a closed position.
Front doors must open from inside and outside of the vehicle. 
Mirrors
The mirrors are checked for condition and security.
  Wheels And Tyres
We will check the vehicle's wheels and tyres for a number of key points: the condition, security, tyre size and type and tread depth.
Brakes
We check the efficiency of the vehicle's braking performance, condition and operation on our roller brake tester.
